Michael Gramaglia

Documentary Filmmaker  Director/Producer/Interviewer

Michael Gramaglia has made films for over 15 years.  He co-directed/co-producer the critically acclaimed documentary End of the Century: the story of the Ramones  and recently completed a film on Graham Parker release date March 11, 2014.  He has also made several corporate films for I.B.M. and smaller projects for artists such as Loudon Wainwright III and The Secret Machines.  Michael is gifted in the art of the interview and has sat with the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Joe Strummer, Debbie Harry, The Ramones, Paul Rudd, Nick Lowe, Joe Jackson, Judd Apatow et alt.

Awards and acknowledgements

End of the Century was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2006 and was selected by the New York Times, National Public Radio and the San Francisco Chronicle as one of the top ten films of 2005.  In the intervening years the film continues receive accolades from around the world and has attained a cult film status.  In December of 2013, the UK Guardian listed it number five on its top ten greatest movies about music of all time.  Not too shabby.

The film produced for IBM entitled The Internet of Things was a viral film that was listed on Google's Two Hundred Most Interesting Things on the Internet  list of 2010.  An internal auditing team at IBM noted that it was one of the top four preforming ventures for the company for that same year, outperforming all TV and print advertising and conference events worldwide.

The Vision

While these project are varied and unique, they each are exemplary of the kinds of focused, clear narratives that Michael is passionate about bringing to life.  If there is one trait they all share it is successful way that complex subject matter made is made comprehensible.  Whether it is the burgeoning punk esthetic of the Lower East Side or the insight into the birth of a new world connected by the internet, these are dynamic and engaging films powered by the simple art of storytelling.

Background

Michael is the son of a Sound Mixer and nephew of four uncles who had careers in the film world.  He worked with his father for eight years in the sound department on hundreds of Television commercials, series and major motion pictures.
